On Ignorant Cell Phone Users- Should I Use Pepper Spray or Stun Gun ?

Friday, March 14th, 2008

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=James_Raymond]James Raymond Is there such a thing as cell phone etiquette? Here are my thoughts : 1.When you are in public, find a place where you won’t bother people. We do not want to know what you did last night or your future plans. 2.Have you ever heard of vibrate mode? Use it when you are in church, library, restaurant, movies or other such places. I thought this was common sense but …. 3.When you receive a call and you’re with someone, make it very short or offer to call them back. Otherwise, it is very rude to the other person or persons. 4.Don’t use the cell phone when you are driving a car. You will inadvertently hit someone when you are maneuvering a curve or at the very least inconvenience other drivers with your delays. Some communities have a law against using a cell phone while driving. I hope all communities and cities pass such ordinance. 5.If you are working servicing people ( cashier etc), set your phone down until you finish your task, You shouldn’t be talking long on the phone anyway when you are working. Who gets paid from talking to their friend anyway? 6,Don’t use you cell phone when you are exercising in a health club. It is very annoying to people around you. Besides, what can’t wait until after you exercise.? I thought you exercise to reduce stress. 7.Don’t use your cell phone when you’re with your child bicycling on the sidewalk. The reason should be obvious or you shouldn’t be a parent. Why do they have a test for driving but not for being a parent? 8.When you are waiting in line, do not use your cell phone. All the people around you are prisoners to your conversation. Remember what Woody Allen said about being locked up in a cell with an insurance agent. ( No disrespect meant for insurance agent. I once was one myself.) 9. Don’t use your cell phone when someone is doing your tax return. It is no only rude and annoying but it could cost you money. 10. Don’t use your cell phone when you are walking your dog. Your dog needs quality time with you. 11. Using a cell phone while cooking is a no no. It is not fair to your family. Call the people back. If you are single, what the ? 12. Don’t use your cell phone while a policeman is writing you a ticket. 13. Using a cell phone while jogging is not a good idea . (ergonomically) If you refuse to change your telephone etiquette, take a wired phone and go into the bathroom and No thats too cruel. James P. Houston DWI Penalties

Friday, March 7th, 2008

By Max Bellamy Research points out that about three Americans in ten are involved in a DWI offense during some point of their life. The figures are roughly equal when you take into account Texas as a whole or only Houston. The increase in the vehicle population has also contributed to the increase in the number of accidents. DWI laws are therefore being toughened by almost every state. These strict measures are being taken to deter people from DWI. Houston has been actively setting up DWI checkpoints and raising penalties by increasing fines and even jail time. These stricter measures are resulting in reduced fatalities. Even first time convictions could include punishments like having a device installed on the ignition lock that would require a breath sample before you start your vehicle. There are many states that have passed legislation, bringing this law into enforcement. The stricter laws have made drivers make better choices, when it comes to driving. DWI laws are sending the message that consequences once you are charged can alter your whole life. Your license can be easily suspended with the present laws. Worse, you could end up losing your license. DWI penalties are based on a number of factors like prior record, age, and sex, to mention only a few. One should always be aware of Houston DWI laws, before hitting the road. Penalties for DWI could include fines or even possible jail time or community service. You can also end up in a drug education program. Penalties could get stricter under certain other circumstances. For instance, if the accident involves children, then you are in for real trouble. It is therefore important that you know at least the basics of Houston DWI Laws. You can get valuable information on these laws from leading online resources and from your Houston DWI attorney. They are perhaps the best source of information. They are also best placed to protect your legal rights, in case you are charged with a DWI offense. Houston DWI Lawyers provides detailed information on Houston Alcohol Treatment, Houston DWI Arrests, Houston DWI Defense, Houston DWI Fines and more. Always The Bridesmaid, Never The Bride

Thursday, March 6th, 2008

By Andrea Stephenson We all have one. The friend who you love to death, but somehow manages to rain on your parade in whatever you choose to do. I am an oddity amongst my circle of female friends. At the practically ancient age of twenty-six I am showing no sign of wanting to settle down and have two point four children with Mr. Right. Whilst many I grew up with have come to the end of their second marriages by now I havent even been in a serious relationship for four years. And Im loving it. Not so with a friend of mine, who for the sake of diplomacy shall be known as Jane. She jumps from relationship to relationship, assessing each partner on his long term prospects in the desperate hope of a wedding ring before she turns thirty. Im not sure if a meteor is going to hit the earth after that point, or if the ticking of her body clock is going to cause her to explode, but her attitude breathes a level of desperation that Im surprised hasnt scared away every man in a five-mile radius. Which is a shame. No, really. Despite her somewhat archaic views on women needing to be married Jane is a good friend and entertaining to be with if youre female. Things are not so good however, if you are Kate, another long-term friend of mine. She is soon to make the leap and walk down the aisle with Simon, or she would be if she wasnt worrying about Jane. For in a moment of stupidity she decided to make the supposedly unpardonable sin of asking Jane and me to be her bridesmaids. Now, of course Jane could have said no, but not wanting to offend Kate she didnt. So for the past few weeks I have had to endure dress fittings to the following soundtrack. But I look fat in this. Ill never attract a man dressed in peach. Its okay for you, you have a fianc. Im going to die sad and alone. I want children. Now Im a patient woman. Im not a great believer in happily ever after myself, but I know one rule for sure. A wedding is about two people, and those two alone. The role of a bridesmaid is to support the bride, not bemoan her own lack of luck in relationships. So far Kate has been a star but even I can tell her temper is wearing thin. So let me say this, next time anyone out there wants to say those famous words, Always the bridesmaid never the bride, remember this. You have a friend who sees you as special enough to give you a pivotal role in what she sees as the greatest day in her whole life. Dont spoil it by your moans, just bite your tongue and let your friend have her day. And if that doesnt work for you, just think: you look more attractive when you smile. Intuitive Eating - The Secret Of Permanent Weight Loss With Ease And Grace

Wednesday, March 5th, 2008

By Nancy Hill I know, you’re probably thinking you have to be on a diet forever to have any kind of permanent weight loss. But nothing could be further from the truth. With rare exceptions, most people were born into normal weight bodies. But then we learned to diet instead of eating intuitively. Dieting causes the body to go into survival mode. Dieting itself sparks the intense biological urge to consume large quantities of high calorie foods. It causes the body’s instinctual drives to override all intellectual controls. It primes the body to maximize food intake and minimize energy burned. Diets have set us up to fight against our own physical survival, the body’s most basic instinct. As a comparison, think of how difficult life would be if you had to go to the bathroom on a rigid schedule. What if you only allowed yourself to urinate 3 times a day? At 8 a.m., noon, and 6 p.m. you could release exactly 5 ounces. You’d measure it - of course - to be sure it was the right amount. If you needed to go more, you would force yourself to wait until the next scheduled time. And too bad if you needed to go at 10 am, hold it until noon. You would be miserable. Your body would have a very difficult time complying with an arbitrary schedule. It would probably get ugly. Overeating because your body refuses to starve doesn’t make you a failure. It means you’re human. *It doesn’t make you diseased. *It doesn’t mean you are flawed forever. *It doesn’t doom you to being permanently sick and trying to recover for the rest of your life. *It means you did the best you could at the time. *It means you can forgive yourself and move on. Intuitive eating is the most natural thing we do and your body knows exactly what it needs to live at it’s very best. All you have to do is practice listening and ACT on the information. Your body knows what to do. Just as it knows how to breathe, reproduce, and heal. Think of how children live, we can learn a lot from them*They rest when they are tired.*They run, jump, swim, dance, and play as much as they can because it feels good and it’s fun. *They are picky about what they eat. They’ll go hungry rather than settle for something they don’t love.*They eat when they’re hungry. *Once they feel full, they have to be tricked or bribed into eating even one more bite of food.*They drink when they’re thirsty. *They love their bodies and they don’t care how their thighs look or if their tummy isn’t flat and tight.*They don’t have to think about all this. It just comes naturally and easily as a part of being human. All of these natural instincts live in each of us, too. We all have the inborn ability to take care of ourselves. We just have to remember. We just have to get back in the habit of listening to our bodiesof following their wisdom. Remember, a normal body weight is your birthright. It was stolen from you. Now, with intuitive eating, you get to take it back. So stop thinking of yourself as forever fat. You are not doomed to either being overweight or to being on a perpetual diet. Let overeating and overweight fade into the past. They served you well to keep you alive. Once you stop dieting and accept the body you were born with, you can return to your unique, normal weight. I’m not suggesting everyone is going to be model-skinny. The endless, tyrannical pressure to be very thin is a big part of the problem. Some bodies are meant to be soft and curvy. Others are naturally sharp and angular. We are variously stocky, tall, fleshy, muscular, sinewy, short, etc. There is wonderful beauty in diversity. Accepting and loving the unique beauty of your body will heal you and set you free. Be like a child and delight in the body you have. Cherish the power in your muscles. Enjoy the feeling of being alive here on this planet. Let go of having to look a certain way. Be yourself. Let someone else try to be like the models or celebrities. The world will be a better place if it gets to have the real, unique, special person that YOU are. Believe in your own healing. Believe that you can live easily and naturally at your own ideal weight. That faith is a huge part of what will set you free. Intuitive eating is normal and completely natural. Deep down you know how to do it. 2007 Nancy Hill has helped thousands break free from the nightmare of dieting with her ebook, “Undieting - 11 Simple Steps to Reclaim Your Body and Your Life.” Sign up now to get 21 Free Hot Tips and discover the secret ways intuitive eating makes permanent weight loss easy without ever dieting again. Business Directories for Marketing

Monday, March 3rd, 2008

By Brian Blunt When most people hear the phrase, business directory they think of a 700 page yellow phone book with business and residential listings. There are also business directories designed to promote a specific type of business on the internet. There are many companies that sell advertisement space on a business listing database. A business is placed into a particular category and when a visitor enters a website they have full access to several business categories to choose from. For example, if a business falls into the category of restaurants and they are interested in searching for a particular restaurant; there is a listing of various restaurants to choose from. This is an excellent form of marketing for a business. A listing in a business directory can increase business tremendously especially on a web site with a high traffic volume. There are several business directories online that will promote your business for free while some will charge a one time fee or a monthly fee. You can find a list of them simply by conducting a search. Most business directories have limited information about a company such as an address and a contact number. Where as there are many internet business directories that have an expanded search such as address, contact number, fax number, website address and email address. Some companys will offer advertisers the option of linking their websites so that when a visitor selects a particular location with a website listing, they will link directly to that website. This is a good option for a webmaster who wants to track how much traffic he or she is receiving through their listing. This information will help tell them if its a successful venture or not. Another form of a business directory that is a good marketing tool is direct marketing. Many research firms rely on direct marketing lists to match their leads with various business directories. This is like a form of free publicity which is always good for a business, especially a new business. Business directories have been proven to be successful for many business peoples marketing campaigns. Brian Blunt administrates the Business Lists business directory and is also an editor at the Platinax Business Directory. Tis the Season to be Curly - Holiday Hair Care Tips

Monday, March 3rd, 2008

By Mahisha Dellinger With the holiday season fast approaching, and countless parties and festive social events you might have to attend you want to make sure your hair is fabulous! Remember our hair is as delicate as it is beautiful, therefore it is imperative that you treat your hair like you would a fine silk blouse with extra care. Regular conditioning, daily moisturizing and quality hair care products are a must! Winter Hair Care Tips: Winter is the season that wrecks the most havoc on curly tresses. From the seemingly instant change in climate to the daily assault of dry, brittle wind and frizz-producing rain — a curly girl just doesn’t have a chance! However, you can counter the evils of winter by incorporating a good hair regime and using only quality products for your hair. Product choice is paramount. Look for moisturizing cleansers and conditioners and hydrating stylers and leave in products.  Over shampooing and under conditioning are common culprits for dry, frizzy hair. Winter weather further exacerbates the issue. Therefore, shampooing more than 1x a week is not recommended. I recommend shampooing 2-3x a month, for dry and/or damaged hair, and 1x a week for undamaged curly hair.  Proper conditioning is one of the most important steps for maintaining a head of radiantly health hair. Unfortunately, most of us do not take the time to adequately do so. Deep conditioning, with heat, is recommended,  On the other “shampoo-less” days do a conditioning rinse - rinse hair to remove styling products (this is where using the right products that are water soluble come in….such as our products), apply an ample amount of conditioner comb through, rinse and proceed with styling. Doing so will pump much needed moisture back into your hair without stripping away essential nutrients, rinse away unnecessary dirt and oil and give you a fresh clean start.  Avoid products that contain mineral and/or petrolatum oil as an ingredient. Do not use products with these ingredients for your curly hair or scalp. Both of these synthetic oils coat and suffocate the hair shaft blocking moisture out. Further, they clog pores in your scalp and can retard hair growth. Read your labels. Remember, the ingredients are listed in order of volume. If you hair requires an oil, use only natural oils that penetrate the hair shaft (e.g. coconut, almond, olive, pomegranate seed oil). Holiday Hair Dos  Give your hair a pre-holiday deep treatment, with heat, especially if you plan to heat style your hair. This extra step will help protect the cuticle from damage.  Nothing is more unattractive then sparse, stringy ends, especially on girls/women with curly hair. Regular trims should be a part of your hair care regimen. Curly hair should be trimmed at least every 3 months, and 1 week before a major event or party. But dont just trust anyone with your gorgeous locks. Ensure that your stylist is familiar with styling and cutting curly hair.  Use the right tools when styling your hair. Always opt for natural boar bristle brushes and not nylon brushes, as they tend to break the hair especially during winter months.  Dont overdo the heat styling. Excessive blow drying, flat ironing and curly will perpetuate dryness and encourage breakage.  Go natural! Explore you hair and its glory. Go for the sexy, messy look. Cleanse, condition, moisturize your curly tresses and let them be. STYLE TIP: Once your hair is dry, gently secure various ringlets tautly to your scalp with bobby pins. Allow a few curly tresses to dangle in your face. Let the sparkle and shimmer of the holiday season inspire you to have fun with your hairstyle. A little red dress, stunning stilettos, accessories to die for and a hot handbag are just what a woman needs to turn heads at any holiday bash. Top it all off with the perfect hairstyle and youve got a look thats simply stunning! Flower Meanings & History of Flowers

Sunday, March 2nd, 2008

By Josh Grossman The charming and delicate beauty of flowers has fascinated people of all nations and backgrounds for centuries. Flowers have been bred and cultivated for their decorative beauty as well as their ability to heal diseases. Flowers are the subject of poems and myths, and religious symbols are associated with flowers as well. Many girls are named after flowers. The main reason for the popularity of flowers though is their ability to bring good cheer. For all fellow lovers and admirers of flowers here is some background information about flowers. This will help give your flower gift giving and buying a greater context. Asters There are over 600 species of asters, the most popular being the Monte Casino. Ancient societies believed that the odor of its leaves, when burnt, drove away serpents. While this might not be as applicable today, perhaps its connotation is still relevant: Giving asters means, “I am not sure whether you have been faithful to me”. Be careful who you send asters to! Meanings: charming, patience Bells of Ireland Although the name suggests these flowers come from Ireland, they originated in western Asia. Bells of Ireland have a spicy/peppery scent and are part of the mint family. They stand for good luck. Meanings: good luck, whimsy Carnations Turn of the century dandies would not leave the house without a white or red carnation in the buttonhole of their suit. With the end of this tradition and the fact that carnations are so easily cultivated and grown, the flower has lost some of its popularity. However, carnations are not only beautiful and long lasting flowers, they also send a message: When you receive a red carnation bouquet, it means, “My heart aches for you” and when you receive white carnations the sender is saying: “I am still available.” Meanings: fascination, devoted Love Chrysanthemum Imagine, chrysanthemums have been cultivated in Chinese gardens for almost 3000 years! The name chrysanthemum comes from the Greek chrysos (gold) and anthos (flower). Today some of the meanings associated with this flower are: innocence, cheerfulness and loyal love. Meanings: cheerfulness, innocence Dahlias The dahlia is the national flower of Mexico and this is also its birthplace. An old Aztec document states that the Aztecs used dahlias as a treatment for epilepsy. Only in the 19th century did the flower come to Europe where it was bred and cultivated into today’s varieties. Meanings: dignity, elegance Iris Did you know that there are so many different varieties of iris that they can be grown wild year round, in water and on land? Iris was most significant in history as the emblem of France — Fleur-de-Lis — established in the 11th century by the king of France. Today, it is the state flower of Tennessee and its meanings are faith, hope and wisdom. Meanings: faith, hope, wisdom Lilies Lilies have been associated with many ancient myths. They are mentioned in the Old Testament, and in the New Testament, and symbolize chastity and virtue. Even today, lilies are associated with purity and faith. Meanings: purity, faith Peruvian lilies or alstroemeria are named after the Swedish botanist Baron Klas von Alstroemer. He brought the flower seeds back from a trip to South America in the 18th century. Meanings: friendship, devotion Calla lilies were first imported from South Africa to America in the mid-nineteenth century. The waxy white blooms and spearheaded leaves of the calla lily stand for radiant beauty and sophistication. Meanings: sophistication, beauty Lisianthus Lisianthus may sound like a Latin name, but it is one of several common names associated with this plant. It is also referred to as Prairie Gentian, Prairie Rose or Texas Bluebell. The flowers existing today are derived from an American wildflower that is native to prairies ranging from Colorado to Nebraska and down to Texas. Meanings: outgoing, thoughts Orchids During the 19th Century, orchids were widely collected. With nearly 25,000 varieties, some orchids are among the most exquisite and expensive flowers available. In antiquity, orchids were correlated with love and fertility. It was common knowledge that they would protect against diseases. Given as a gift they stand for preciousness and seduction. Meanings: seduction, preciousness Snapdragons Snapdragons are an old decorative flower, widely used by the Romans. From its origin in southern Spain the cultivated form was spread throughout the whole Roman Empire. Nowadays remnants of this original population which all belong to the species Antirrhinum majus are found among Roman remains like temples in southern France, Malta, and Italy. The flower, also called “gracious lady” stands for deception. Meanings: desire, strength Roses With their far-reaching popularity, roses are the queens of flowers. After buttercup, the roses are the second oldest variety of flowers on the planet. Biologists can trace roses back some 200 million years! Although there is a huge number of meanings and symbols associated with roses, the most common of course is love, which originated in Greek mythology. When Aphrodite cried about the death of her lover Adonis, she had red “Adonis Roses” grown with his blood, - thus red roses are the symbol of never-ending love. Important to mention are the roses’ thorns, of which we all probably have some painful memory. Symbolically, love can be painful and full of suffering when not treated carefully. Red roses: I love you, unconscious beauty White roses: spiritual love, purity Yellow roses: joy, gladness Orange roses: fascinated, enthusiastic Pink roses: grace, gentility Tulips Originally from Persia, tulips were introduced to Western Europe and the Netherlands in the 17th century. When growers started to hybridize the flower, they found ways of making it even more decorative. Hybrids of the flower were a scarcity at the time and a symbol of high status. Soon tulips became very popular as a trading product and bulbs were traded at the highest prices. The months of late 1636 to early 1637 would make history in the Netherlands as “Tulipmania”. A bed of tulips was worth up to $5,000, the value of a small house in Amsterdam. The bulbs became currency, and their value was quoted at the stock market. Meanings: perfect lover, fame Sunflowers Sunflowers turn their heads toward the sun and this how they got their common name. They originated in Central and South America. Sunflowers are not only pretty to look at but sunflower seeds are power-packed with healthy fats, protein, fiber, minerals, and vitamin E - all important to the nutritional quality of your diet. Wait! That doesn’t mean you’re supposed to eat the seeds out of your sunflower bouquet. Meanings: adoration, sunshine Josh Grossman is cofounder of online florist Beyond Blossoms (http://www.beyondblossoms.com). The company ships farm fresh, hand-tied flowers nationwide.
