Top Trade Show Exhibit Trends

Tuesday, November 27th, 2007

By Mat Kelly Current trends are creating a different climate at trade shows these days. With competition for the customers attention stronger than ever, exhibitors are no longer fixated on separating themselves from their competitors by focusing on a particular product and simply talking about solutions and benefits. Which leads us to the first, and probably most profound, trend in trade show exhibiting. Experiential Exhibits: Product pitches and demos are out at least they are no longer the centerpiece of a trade show exhibit. Instead of the literal, one-on-one, were better because . . . spiel, the challenge has become creating an experience for the potential customer that leaves them in awe, or at least makes a strong enough impression that they forget about the competition. While the trade show booth is a temporary fixture, the idea is to create a space that has a feeling of permanence and keeps the customer engaged. So engaged, in fact, that the customer has a memorable experience, and associates that experience with your product eliminating the need for the hard sell, and creating a smooth landing for the soft sell. Each element of these experiential exhibits is crucial and must be carefully selected to effectively execute a cutting-edge, yet warm and inviting, space. Any sort of edutainment feature anchored in technology, such as interactive computer games that test knowledge or popular television game shows as a template for a game featuring facts and information about your company or industry, are a must-have. Making this part of your trade show booth space gives you an opportunity to make your booth more of an interactive space. Materials: There are many different types of materials that can be used and are used to make trade show displays. But because of its versatility and low cost in comparison to other materials, fabric is one of the trendiest materials to use for your booth. Metal and wood are used less frequently because of their weight, bulkiness and inflexibility. You can use fabric in a subtle way, almost like a canvas, to create a backdrop for the theme of your space. And often, the light, airy nature of the fabrics used for todays exhibits create a light, airy feeling for your trade show display. But more often, you will find fabric being used for the banner stands, such as the Allure tensioned fabric banner displays that have recently hit the market. These high-quality banners are quickly set up (about two minutes with no tools needed) and easy to put together, convenient to travel with (even on an airplane,) economical to ship, and, shelves can be added to the banners for a more sophisticated look. These advantages, along with the long life and durability of the Allure banners, makes them slightly more expensive than typical banner stands. But the extra money is worth it - these banners create such a strong presence that they can be used by themselves or combined with a pop-up or custom booth to really make your space pop. Lighting: Whether you are going for a more traditional trade show booth or the cutting-edge experiential, lighting is crucial in creating the mood for your space. Because of this, custom lighting is becoming more mainstream. Using filtered or wash lights creates a mood that drastically contrasts with a trade show display that uses spotlights. But ambience is not the only reason custom lighting has become more popular. You can also use lighting however dramatic or subdued to bring attention to featured products. The Final Touches Todays trade show visitors are limited on time and bombarded with a flurry of sales and marketing gimmicks. To stand out in the crowd, here are some additional trends that have emerged in recent years. Booth Details Once you have gotten a visitors attention and they have entered your space, you must give them a good reason to stick around for more than a couple of seconds. This is the time for you to immerse the customer with your brand. Visitors want to see how your product or service will benefit them so show them. Testimonials are an easy way to achieve this, in addition to marketing materials featuring people using your product, as well as the standard product demonstration. And because presentation is everything, additional pieces in your booth, such as literature racks, are a good way to keep your space organized while attractively displaying your marketing materials without overwhelming prospects with too much information. Time is of the Essence With the demands of today’s busy work schedules, most visitors do not have an entire day to spend at a trade show. Their time at the event is valuable, so you must be able to get their attention and quickly and easily explain what your company offers. Some of these visitors will come to the trade show as a team, and the team will include decision-makers who evaluate you, in comparison with the competition. Get the Word Out This is a trend that has been around for awhile, but one that is often overlooked. Prior to the event, let your clients and potential customers know that you are participating in a trade show use every promotional opportunity to mention it, use direct mail, email and other traditional marketing avenues to drive more traffic to your exhibit. Trade shows are an essential piece of an overall successful marketing strategy. And implementing these trends for your trade show space will help create that memorable experience for clients and potential customers that will hopefully make follow-up a breeze. Writing to Sell - Convince, Don’t Con

Monday, November 26th, 2007

By John Philip Writing should always be suitable for the target audience. This is simple good sense. It is no good, for instance, writing a sales leaflet for soap powder in the language used by the scientists who developed it. Some people make the big mistake of twisting this into the idea that you should write what the audience wants to read. This may prove apparently successful in the short term, but generally ends up in a loss of confidence and trust. Why do so many people distrust insurance, double-glazing and every other high-pressure salesman? Simple! After they have bought the product, they realise that half of what they have been told is a con. It may have been technically legal, but it is still, to ordinary folk like you and me, a con. The policy isnt really free at all, though the sales pitch made it sound very like it; it isnt really unique in the market, except that it is the only one from this particular company; signing up today isnt really in the least bit important, despite the salesmans excitement about the special deal he is getting for you. Examples of such con selling seen all too regularly are those envelopes that regularly turn up informing you that, Youve won 50 million all you have to do is claim it. Most of us chuck them away with a sigh or a snigger. The reason they still get posted is that the pull of gambling is stronger than the immediate negative response. Everybody knows that the headline is untrue (except legally, of course, but then who ever expects the law to uphold the truth?) Nevertheless, that doesnt alter the fact that someone, somewhere is going to win a large sum of money if they jump through enough hoops. On the way, lots of magazines, or whatever the product, will be sold. However, very few companies can play this game and get away with it. Enough of my ranting! What should you write? Whether you are composing a leaflet, letter or web page, the general principles are the same. Tell all the good points honestly, but dont make false claims. Let your belief and commitment shine through, but dont con yourself! Talk to the customer. Extol the benefits to you and say how we can help. Keep the construction simple. The two longer paragraphs above are too long, I have used complex punctuation such as semi-colons, and some sentences and even words are a bit tricky for the average newspaper reader. (My excuse, of course, is that I am not trying to sell anything!) Be positive. The TV in the gym is there to make it even more entertaining, not to relieve the boredom Get your writing checked by someone who will be honest. You can look at it a hundred times yourself and not see the flaws. Even the best writers rely heavily on professional editors, and a good editor ruthlessly points out the flaws. Its no good having someone read your draft and hand it back with, Thats fine. It may be good for the ego, but not the sales figures John Philip has been a writer, editor and educator for over 30 years. He now mainly provides consultancy to businesses, professions and public services and continues to work for befirstgroup.com, which offers writing and editorial services. Is LASIK Corrective Vision Surgery Right for You? Part II

Saturday, November 24th, 2007

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Maureen_Cook] Maureen Cook More than 9 out of 10 LASIK patients, recently interviewed eight years after their surgical procedure, said they were very satisfied with their post-operative quality of life. Not only did they express satisfaction at their own personal outcomes, but they were also willing to recommend this particular type of corrective vision surgery to others. Let’s take a closer look at LASIK surgery so you can decide whether it’s right for you. The different types of LASIK surgery. LASIK surgery comprises two basic types: Standard LASIK and Custom LASIK. In both cases the preparatory and post-operative procedures will be conducted along very similar lines. Before surgery, your ophthalmologist will determine your eligibility for corrective vision surgery by carrying out a detailed eye examination. This will include the use of a corneal topographer to photograph the unique contours and irregularities of your eye. Screening for disqualifying conditions like cataracts and glaucoma will also be carried out. Post-operatively, antibiotic eye drops will usually be prescribed for use four times daily over two weeks. Rubbing the eyes, an involuntary response while sleeping, should be avoided as it might dislodge the newly-settling LASIK flap. To reduce this risk of displacement, some surgeons advocate the wearing of a clear shield over the eye for the first week. The day of your treatment. On the day of your treatment, which will be an outpatient procedure of typically one hour’s duration, you’ll have topical anaesthetic drops applied to the eye. The skin around the eye will be cleaned with antiseptic solution and a sterile drape placed over it. Your head will be positioned under the laser and an eyelid speculum placed in your eye to retain the eyelids. A suction ring, which guides the fine blade used to make the corneal incision, is then placed on the eye. A thin flap is then created by one quick slice across the top of the cornea. Having folded back the flap, the laser is used to remove a microscopic amount of corneal tissue before the flap is replaced in its original position. A saline solution washes away any particles which may have landed on the exposed cornea during the procedure. You will now rest for a little while before going home. It is often recommended that LASIK surgery is performed on one eye at a time (the procedure is not reversible). If all goes well, however, and the treated eye shows post-operative stability, then the second eye could be treated within two or three months after the first procedure. Custom LASIK Surgery. In Standard Lasik, the patient’s prescription is the sole determinant of the number and location of computer-controlled laser pulses delivered to the eye. As with most things in life, however, the more information which is made available to the surgeon, the greater the likelihood that the corrective vision surgery will result in a better overall quality of vision for the patient. This has been borne out by comparing patients’ evaluations over the two LASIK procedures. Custom LASIK has the edge over traditional LASIK on two counts: temporary problems of haloes and distorted vision experienced post-traditional LASIK surgery are not encountered in Custom LASIK. Problems with glare or starburst around lights, commonly experienced by traditional LASIK patients when the pupil is dilated at night or under low light conditions, were not repeated by custom LASIK patients. The absence of these temporary problems, along with a slightly higher figure for visual acuity in custom LASIK patients, are attributable to the three-dimensional image of the patient’s eye which is fed into the computer. Compared to the two-dimensional image of the conventional procedure, the surgeon has a detailed, 3-D map of a patient’s eye imperfections at his disposal. This allows him to work with a greater degree of accuracy and to achieve even better quality of vision for his patients. Risks and complications. Any surgical procedure carries risks. However , it should be pointed out that there are LASIK-specific problems related to the creation of the hinged corneal flap. Complications, including damage to or wrinkling of the corneal flap or penetration of the eye by the microkeratome (surgical blade), may result in permanent loss of best corrected vision. Corrective lenses would then have to be worn by the patient. The eye might also be under-or over-treated. Retreatment for under-correction can usually be carried out 4-12 weeks after the primary LASIK procedure. The original flap is lifted once more and further tissue is removed to correct the residual refractive error. Over-treatment, however, entails consequences similar to corneal flap damage: the need to continue wearing corrective lenses. An experienced, skilled surgeon is, therefore, vitally important. Tips on choosing a LASIK surgery surgeon. Interview several surgeons whose names have been referred to you from people you trust. Be well-prepared with questions on your likely refractive outcome; the cost of your treatment (are all medication and clinical reviews included in the treatment costs?), and the cost of possible retreatment. Will the surgeon who performs the surgery be present at the subsequent follow-up clinics? You only have one pair of eyes so make sure that cost alone doesn’t determine your choice of surgeon. Go for the best, most experienced surgeon you can afford. 2006 Maureen P CookMaureen Cook writes articles for publication from her home in England. All Marketers are Thieves

Saturday, November 24th, 2007

By Stoney DeGeyter A famous marketing has been quoted as saying all marketers are liars. I certainly won’t argue with that principle. Marketing is often about who can BS the best. But I also think its true that all marketers are thieves. Several months ago Chevy started an “Employee Discount” marketing campaign where us average Joes can get a car for the same price as Chevy employees. Guess what, it worked! Shortly after Ford started their own campaign called the “Family Discount”. It must have worked for them too because they extended the sale a few extra weeks. Every great while someone comes up with a stellar marketing idea. It isn’t long before that idea is copied, rinsed, washed, and repeated over and over gain. How many different bumper stickers do you still see copying the “got milk” campaign? “got sand”, “got jesus”, “got fruit”, “got laughs” and so on and so forth. If its good, they will copy. But if something works, why shouldn’t it be copied? Why shouldn’t you take someone else’s concept and make it your own? As a marketer, it’s your job to see what works and then find ways to apply that to whatever you are selling. Of course, the more popular a marketing campaign is and the better it works, the harder it will be to steal it without looking like a thief. The trick is to take an idea and turn it into something new, something different enough to be yours, but the same enough to still be effective. The idea here is to not get caught copying the obvious. Look around, there are plenty of good marketing ideas all around. I didn’t go to Burger King looking for a marketing idea, but because my eyes were open, I found one, and stole it. What have you stolen lately? Stoney deGeyter is president of Pole Position Marketing, a Reno SEO firm providing search engine optimization and marketing services since 1998. By Steve Polk If you follow these safe weight reduction tips, you will begin to see results in just a few short weeks. 1) Eat 4-6 small meals a day. 2) Eat All your carbs before 3-PM 3) Make sure it’s always low glycemic carbs like whole wheat bread, brown rice, whole wheat pasta, etc. 4) Always combine some sort of protein with your food consumption, this well help keep your blood sugar level lower and balance out the calories that your body will be burning for energy. 5) After 3 PM stick to nothing more than vegetables, fruit and meat. This will get your blood sugar level even lower so your body doesnt have a tendency to stick those extra calories caused by starchy carbs in your fat cells at night. 6) Here is a key. Work out every morning (high intensity) or low if you can’t because of a health issue) 30 minutes at the most on an empty stomach. This will help your body burn and tap into only your fat cells for energy. This way your burning off exactly what you don’t want which is fat. High intensity could be as simple as a very brisk walk. 7) Everything you eat must be burned, so if you’re sticking to lower carbs later in the afternoon and at night when you wake up your body will be ready to burn its reserved energy source. Don’t Fall for a Lending Scam

Monday, November 19th, 2007

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Martin_Lukac]Martin Lukac It seems as if you can’t trust anyone. Believe me — if it sounds too good to be true, it is. Especially when it comes to money. Don’t be fooled by the idea that only the elderly, the young and the desperate are targeted by scams. Everyone can be a target. If you are vulnerable, you are especially at risk. If you fall for a scam, you could lose a lot of money, your credit history and even your home. What is your best defence? Education. You need to know what scams are out there. You need to know how the lending of money works, so if you see something out of the usual, you know to ask questions. You need to ask those questions about everything. I recently heard of a homeowner who was offered $100,000 more for his home than he was asking. Upon closing, he was to turn the $100,000 over to the buyer. That way, he got his home sold at the full asking price, while the buyer had money for “improvements and moving costs.” This sounds good, but it is often a scam. And by taking the buyer up on it, the seller becomes involved and can be criminally held accountable. Many lenders offer equity loans to homeowners who can’t afford them. This is called equity stipping. If you don’t have anything but equity in your home, abusive lenders could try to get you to pad your income using a home loan. They count on you not affording the payments. The lender then waits for you to default on the home and they foreclose. You lose your home. Never agree to a loan you know you can’t afford. If something sounds like the easy way out, you need to look again. Make sure that you have an attorney that you trust read over everything you are offered. Don’t sign anything without concurring with someone you trust. Don’t ever allow yourself to be pressured into signing anything. In fact, don’t ever give out your personal information to anyone who contacts you. You should only give your information to reputable businesses that you are sure of. Be aware of lenders who come to you. After all, your bank doesn’t try to give you money. Be wary of anyone who does this. And finally — don’t trust anyone. At least, not with your money. Put Down That Brownie! Just One Bite Can Knock You Off Plan

Sunday, November 18th, 2007

By Benji Paras It is very important for low carb dietersto stick to the exact plan prescribed ina book or by a doctor or dietitian.Taking even “one bite” of somethingthat is not on the plan can easilyruin a dieters progress on a lowcarb plan. This is especially important inthe early “no carb” phase ofmany low carb diets. For instance, in the “induction” phaseof the Atkins diet, taking evenone bite of carb-rich or sugar-richsweets will not only knock a low carb dieter out of ketosis–and prevent the massive and rapidshedding of fat–but it will alsoincrease cravings for more carb-heavyfoods, making it harder for dietersto stick with the plan in followingdays. If you are on a low carbdiet or are planning to startone, it is important for you tothink ahead, so you dontfall into this trap. If you are planning to eat somewhere thatyou cannot control what is being served(i.e. a friends house or your parents house) during the early, “no carb” phase of your diet, it is a good idea tocome up with a plan ahead of time. You may want to either tell your hostthat you are on a special diet–orsimply wait until the upcoming weekto start the first phase of yourlow carb diet. When you get into the later phasesof your diet, you will have a littlemore flexibility. If you are planningto eat at a friends house, you cansave up some of your carbs from theweek (if your diet allows it) and thenuse them at your friends house. No matter what your plan is, it isimportant that you stick to it. Decline the carb-heavy mealswhen they do not fit your prescription. There has probably never been a single low carb dieter who hasntbeen put in this situation. But thenagain, there probably arent toomany successful low carb dieterswho dont know how to say no. Next time someone asks you if youwant dessert, remember: even “one bite” can ruin all your hard work.Say no. Meditation To Cure Insomnia

Friday, November 16th, 2007

By Shideh Farahmand In order to have the best sleep possible when one wants to sleep, it is best to be as relaxed and care-free as possible. This in turn increases your chances of deep, fulfilling sleep phenomenally. How exactly is this mental state achieved? In this modern time nearly everyone has access to sleeping pills at their disposal. The use of sleep medication to get to sleep is also probably the easiest, just pop a pill and get to bed. However, the use of such pills are known to cause drowsiness throughout the day and are notorious for causing dependencies. There are, however, effective alternatives to get to sleep without introducing foreign chemicals into the body every night. Things that claim to do this include: Herbal Products (which are pills anyways and often ineffective), Audio Tapes (which sound strange, aren’t proven, and may distract some from sleep), and sleep meditation to cure insomnia which requires some effort. In my opinion, sleep meditation is one of the the better ways to treat insomnia. While it does actually take some minimal work on your side, it is the safest and most effective alternative that is very easy to integrate into your life while being beneficial to your life all around. Not reccomended for the close-minded who doubt this method or those who have no motivation, time, or discipline, sleep meditation takes a few moments and gradual time to get used to, but when it kicks in, the exact favorable mental conditions for sleep are replicated naturally and with great efficacy. This occurs because sleep meditation virtually extracts all of the anxiety, stress, and discomfort you still may have dragged with you from your day and flushes it down the figurative toilet. With that done, there is nothing left to obstruct the blissful sleep you deserve. This is the very reason babies sleep nearly instantly and peacefully, its because they are not exposed to these detrimental mental conditions yet that you need removed every night. If you were to observe a sleeping baby, you would quickly learn that barely move while asleep and definitely dont snore. So, what exactly is sleep meditation to cure insomnia? It may be just a little similar to what you may expect of meditation but it is definitely different to what you might see an old man do in a Chinese Kung Fu movie. To learn how to get to sleep again without the use of harmful, dependency stirring drugs, and use sleep meditation to cure insomnia, just check the link below. How To Use Deck Tiles

Thursday, November 15th, 2007

By Ken Wilssens If your deck needs a facelift, then deck tiles may be the solution youre waiting for. They are cheaper than remodeling any other way and it can be done in a fraction of the time. There are many advantages to using these tiles that will make the job of redoing your deck a snap. Dont worry about tools, glue, nails or any of the conventional things you use for repairs because you wont need them for tiles. They snap together and fit perfectly. There will be no uneven gaps with modular tiles making it perfect for the one weekend project. Tiles can be used on just about any kind of surface as long as its dry, so it makes it ideal for a deck. There also is the advantage of mixing and matching different shades to make your deck look spectacular and all without a deck plan. These Lego type deck tiles can fit around any pipe or into any out of the way place. The biggest thing you may have to do with the tiles is use a jigsaw to shape the tile. Some companies give a 20 to 25 year warranty, so they are very durable. The most maintenance that you will do on them is put a good preservative oil on them every 6 to 8 months. Otherwise, just wash with water or sweep with a broom. So as you can see there are solutions to big problems without too much trouble. There are many kinds of tiles offered in addition to modular tiles, so your choices are unlimited for your deck. Check out ceramic tiles because maybe that would be more suitable to your needs. Whatever kind of tile you choose you can expect a much easier job than having to rebuild your deck using wood and the outcome will be beyond your wildest dreams. When youre finished sit down and enjoy the compliments that you will get from your neighbors.
