Consider PVC Deck Flower Railings

Thursday, August 30th, 2007

By Andrew Caxton Many people are stuck for ideas when it comes to improving their deck area. The good news is that there are many things that can be done to add that extra something special to the overall look of the deck. One of these things is a box deck flower railing which can look very impressive. It helps to give your decking area that sophisticated and finished look and it also helps to improve the atmosphere. The deck is a place where people can escape, so it needs to be somewhere that makes you feel happy with the way that it looks. Adding extra to the deck railings can help you to really enjoy the surroundings a lot more. Something that can also help is by creating planters on the deck. PVC railings There are many different materials that can come into the equation with box deck flower railings and one of them is PVC. The reason that PVC is a great material to use is because it doesnt splinter and it does not heat up like other materials do. This is great because you are unlikely to get burnt by it if you touch it on a very hot day. Not only this but PVC is resistant to ultra violet light and because of this, it will not fade over time. Not to mention that PVC is also waterproof and it is easy to manage. Because of all these great benefits, this really does make PVC a great choice when it comes to a box deck flower railing. So, it has been established that PVC is great but something else that is also good is wood. A wooden box deck flower railing offers a brilliant and classic look and feel to it. There are many different types of wood that you can use in order to get the look that you require. Each will offer its own unique look so it all goes down to personal preference on what you prefer. Cedar is a great example of a good wood as it has natural preservatives and it is resistant to decay and from insects too. It is also better against moisture than most other woods are. Have You Considered Composite Woods? Another great wood to use would be composite woods because they offer beauty without lots of maintenance worries. They are also resistant to water, decay and also insects too. On top of all this, they will not splinter so they are a great material to use for box deck flower railings. So, no matter what ever your situation, whether you live in a rural place with a nice view or overlooking an estate, box flower deck railings will certainly add something special to your deck. Pecan Trees For the Southwest

Wednesday, August 29th, 2007

By Paul Guzman The following pecan trees are also excellent as an ornamental tree. The best time to plant pecan trees is in February. This will help in root development as apposed to leaf, limb and trunk growth. Western Schley - This pecan tree will do best in the arid desert southwest. It is a self pollinator and produces heavy fruit at an early age. It likes arid climates and is also excellent for southern California deserts and higher altitudes. It does well in the colder Texas Panhandle region. It usually ripens in late October and early November. It will also pollinate other varieties of pecan trees. Burkett - This pecan tree is a medium to large round soft shell nut. It is rich, distinctive flavored kernel. It is a large tree and ripens in late September and through early November. Likes arid climates. Cheyenne - Is a medium soft shell with an excellent flavor. It produces fruit early in the season - Mid September. Can pollinate other pecan varieties. It like southern humid and arid climates including east and west regions. It is a semi self fertile. Mahan - A very large soft shell kernel. This pecan bears heavy at an early age, and is also a good shade tree. It prefers arid warm winter climates. Ripens in Mid November. Mohawk - Very large soft shell also a heavy bearer when young. It does very well in the Southwest and Southeast regions. It It is a very attractive tree also excellent for the large backyard. Ripens in Late October, early November. Hardy Pecan Tree - Carya Illinoinensis, is a beautiful, majestic tree that grows to a height of 70 to 100 feet with a spread of 40 to 75 feet. It has low wide spreading branches. The tree provides a bounty of sweet pecan fruits and lots of summer shade after reaching maturity. Hardy Pecan trees have moderate water requirements and has a moderate tolerance to salt and alkali soils. This deciduous, hardy, shade tree is ideal for lawns because it does not shed its leaves until late fall and it is practically immune to the attack of insects. The one drawback is that it takes 12-15 years before the tree begins to bear nuts . Pecan Tree TipsRemember pecan trees need ample chill hours to produce a good crop. A good rule of thumb is to count the number of hours between November 1st and February 15th that are between 32 degrees and 45 degrees F. These hours are cumulative and not continuous. In the Las Cruces, NM area we normally have over 1,000 chill hours. Pruning one-third to one-half of the top is one way of getting pecan trees to thrive. Harvest time is usually after the first good hard freeze in the southwest. You should plant pecans about 2″ deeper than normal to allow for settling of the soil. Water every day for the first 2 weeks when planting any tree, and use a good root stimulator to stimulate root growth. Visit Guzman’s Greenhouse for more free gardening/landscaping information. If leaves start to turn yellowish, it is time to fertilize. If your tree is not bearing fruit you probably need a fertilizer with ZINC. Dead twigs in tops of pecan trees, small nuts, and yellowing of leaves are an indication of ZINC defeciency. Check your local nursery for fruit/pecan tree fertilizer. Keep your pecan tree free of insects and diseases. Physically inspect your tree(s) on a weekly basis. Always remove grass and weeds under the tree canopy. Always plant so the root is totally buried in the original soil line or landscape. Amost all varieties of pecans trees will do better with a pollinator. The Western Schle will pollinate other pecan trees. Chores as a Childhood Learning Tool

Monday, August 27th, 2007

By Lisa Berman All parents want what is best for their children. We want to instill in them the ability to make sounds choices and grow into happy and productive adults. Dan Kindlon, PH.D author of Too much of a Good Thing: Raising Children of Character in an Indulgent Age says that children build self-esteem by overcoming obstacles. When parents shelter their children they deny them the opportunity to make mistakes and to learn and grow from experience. Children will make important decisions for themselves, whether we prepare them, or not. For our children to become the adults we envision, we need to allow them the opportunities in youth to learn about life and how to make decisions that are best for them or in their interest, not ours. This decision making opportunity comes at a very young age. Mac Bledsoe, author of Parenting with Dignity believes that by the time a child is 9 years old they should be making 50% of their own decisions. This means that a 3 year old child should be given some decision making opportunities such as a choice in what to eat for snack, or in what to wear, but not when to go to bed. The idea is that by the age of 9 our mortgage with our children is half paid. By the time they are 18 years old we want them to be able to make smart decisions for themselves, as our mortgage with them should be paid in full. The home is one place we can let go of some controls. For example we can increase our childs independence and ability to handle responsibility by having our children do chores. There are numerous benefits to the routine of chores. There are times that education, guidance, or supervision is required but it is also important to let them figure some stuff out for themselves. Allowing children to determine how they will get their tasks done provides an opportunity for problem solving while allowing them to take an active role in the care and upkeep of their immediate community, their home. It is important for parents to resist the urge to redo their childs work efforts. When we redo something, we need to think about the disempowering message sent to the person who has just spent their time and energy on a task. Is that the message we want to give? Today children are SO busy with activities and homework that we often find it easier to let them off the hook with their chores. Our rationalization is that they can get their homework done sooner so they can actually have some free time to play. As important as down time is, it does a disservice to our children when we let these things slide. Responsibilities in the home provide an opportunity for developing self-discipline and learning problem solving skills, while contributing to the care of the home. Simple chore charts are great reminders for what needs to be done and decreases our need to remind, or nag as they would say. Asking what needs to be done rather than reminding them what needs to be done allows children to think about things and places the responsibility for tasks back on them. Creating an environment where our children can safely practice sound decision making will prepare them for making wise choices in the future. Job Interview Issues - How To Dress To Match The Interview

Saturday, August 25th, 2007

By Mark Baber Recently a job seeker sent me this inquiry below, relating to their problems with how to dress for an interview. Read on and see how sometimes the issues become confusing. “Hello Mark, Couple days ago I went to a job interview with a national restaurant chain. I got the interview through a recruiter, who told me to dress “appropriately” for the job interview. So I wore Dockers, a nice shirt with button down collar and neck tie. And I wore my non-slip shoes, as the interview was to take place at one of their restaurant locations, I figured safety first. I would have wore my dress suit, but when the recruiter said to dress “appropriately,” I took that to mean to dress according to the interview location. So I did. Well, I just heard back from the recruiter and he told me I was out of consideration for the job. One of the reasons he mentioned for me being removed, was my manner of dress, and specifically mentioned my shoes. The interviewer didn’t feel I was dressed correctly for the job interview. I feel as though I was dressed correctly, because we met at a in-operation restaurant location. How is one to know what is appropriate and what is not appropriate job interview dress? Tracy M, Lexington, KY” As you see from the letter above, job interview dress issues can be confusing. When I speak with my own job candidates, my advice about how to dress for any job interview is almost always the same: “Dress as though you are going to meet the President of the Company.” When you enter a job interview, first impressions are lasting. You are not dressing to impress the person or persons with whom you are meeting — though that may also be a benefit of your appearance — instead, you are dressing to exhitbit yourself as a professional in your vocation. Never quibble over this, always dress for success, however cliche it may sound. Now, there are some exceptions, which is why I say above my advice is ‘almost always the same:’ when it comes to what to wear to a job interview. For example, when your interview may include a work environment tour that requires protective clothing or when formal clothing may be vulnerable to destruction, such as a tour of a factory or manufacturing plant, or construction site, or mining facility. But in such cases, don’t assume, ask your interviewer prior to your visit what they consider proper attire. Don’t guess, and if you cannot verify their opinion of what to wear, ‘always dress for success.’ Risking the cost of cleaning or even replacing a dress suit may seem an expensive way to get a job, but if you get the job, it may seem a small price to pay. Information On Private Student Loans

Thursday, August 23rd, 2007

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Bob_Hett]Bob Hett Getting an education after high school is becoming more and more expensive. But it is also becoming more and more of a necessity to get a good job that pays well and has adequate benefits. For this, most young people need to attend college or some other type of additional training. Most of them cant afford to pay for their education by themselves and end up looking for financial help of some kind. Student loans are a popular choice, but federal student loans are based on financial need, and some students do not fit into those guidelines. An alternative choice for these students or their parents is a private student loan. These are loans done through private lenders instead of the government. The advantage of these types of direct student loans is that they have many of the same kinds of benefits as federal loans. These loans can be used for any and all college expenses. Things like tuition, books, supplies, computers, and living expenses are all things that qualify for private student loan funds. These loans are unsecured, meaning that no collateral is needed. The loans are credit-based instead. This can mean that the student might need a co-signer if they have not established a credit history, or their parents can apply for the loan instead. A private education loan is usually a low-interest loan. Borrowers can shop around to find the best rate. There are generally no application fees to apply for this type of loan and there are also no deadlines for applying. The money can be delivered in as little as five days, and the money is given to the student instead of the school. The student is then responsible for paying for their various educational expenses. This kind of loan has other advantages similar to federal loans. The interest and principal payments can be deferred until the student graduates from school. For most of these loans, a student is required to be attending school at least half time for the deferral of payments and interest. When the student does graduate from college, the loans can usually be deferred for six months until the student finds employment, and then the loan holder will generally have a variety of repayment options available so that the student can tailor their payments to their income. A private student loan is the ideal answer for students who do not meet federal requirements for financial need or whose educational expenses are not fully covered by their federal financial aid. Many lenders offer private student loans to students or their parents and the application process is simple and free. The loan requirements are usually less stringent and the repayment options are affordable for young professionals. A private student loan is a great way to finance the education of any student that needs financial help. Bob Hett offers great tips and advice regarding all aspects of Student Loans. Achieving Real Weight Loss

Wednesday, August 22nd, 2007

By Marjorie Geiser The state of health in America is not very positive. As of today, according to the Center for Disease Control, an estimated 65% of adult Americans are considered overweight and 30% of those are considered obese. Cancer much of it preventable — has now surpassed heart disease as the number one cause of death and the number of people who know they have diabetes is now up to 14.6 million. But what are the causes of increased weight gain, what is science telling us about this condition, and most importantly, what can people do about it? Its no surprise that most Americans are eating more than they need and are less active than they were meant to be. According to recent findings by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the average daily caloric intake of Americans is 2,757. Compared to 1970, this is an increase of 523 calories per day. It takes roughly 3500 calories to gain or lose a pound of weight. If a person increased or decreased their daily intake by 500 calories a day, there is the difference in weight you can gain or lose in a week with that difference. Its very easy to add an extra 500 calories a day to a persons diet. Just a large order of French fries will do it! The same is true with NOT eating that extra order of French fries, however. Although some statistics show that there is a slight increase in leisure time activity across the country, according to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), physical activity drops in children from 69% at ages 12 and 13 to 38% for young people between 18 and 21. Between 1991 and 1997, the CDC reports that the percentage of students who attended a daily physical education class dropped from 42% to 27%. If adults are not staying physically active, and children are not getting physical exercise in school, the message they receive is that exercise is not important. Studies show that if children do not learn healthy eating habits and exercise habits when young, they will likely struggle with healthy habits as adults. Could we be killing our kids by not taking care of our own health, setting healthy examples for them, today? But not all people struggling with weight are just sitting around, not exercising and eating ice cream and French fries. Could there be something more going on? Researchers are now looking at what genetics can tell us about weight gain. Some people suffer from the need to eat large amounts of food, no matter how full they feel. Researchers are looking at a substance in our body called Leptin. Studying mice, they find that those mice who have very little Leptin in their bodies tend to eat more, thus they gain more weight, suffering from obesity. But there still is no real solution available for people suffering with large amounts of weight. Although supplement companies have quickly jumped on the bandwagon to capitalize on what preliminary research is telling us about Leptin, these supplements are still false promises that just guarantee emptying the pocketbooks of the hopeful who feel there is no other help for them. What about the claim that some people just cant lose weight, no matter what they do? I have a program that requires clients to document their intake of everything they eat for 30 days, sending me their daily report. What consistently has developed from this is a new awareness to the client of hidden times they eat. Its common for a client to say, I had no idea I grabbed ice cream when I was mad at my husband, or, I had no idea I was eating that bag of chips while working at the computer! As a consequence, every client who goes on this program loses weight. Many people state, as a matter of fact, that they just cant lose weight anymore. Many claim its their age, menopause, you name it. However, when real changes are made, the body does still respond, no matter what the age. In every case that a persons intake is closely monitored, and the calories are decreased, people have lost weight. Even in the case of a 1000 pound man. At home, all he did was gain and gain. By the time he was over 1000 pounds, unable to breathe or move, he was hospitalized. In the hospital, he was put on a strict 1200 calorie diet. While there for six months, on this diet, he lost 600 pounds. Although in later interviews he claimed he never ate much at home and didnt know why he couldnt lose weight at home, the facts speak for themselves. It still is just a matter of calories in versus calories out. So what does a person do? According to the National Weight Control Registry (NWCR), there are three keys to permanent success to weight loss. The NWCR was established in 1994 by two university professors and is the largest prospective investigation of long-term successful weight loss maintenance in the country. Currently the NWCR has over 5,000 people who have lost at least 30 pounds of weight and kept it off for at least a year who are eligible to join the ongoing research study. What researchers have discovered is, regardless of how people have lost the weight, keeping it off has included several necessary consistent steps: Success for these people have included following a low-fat, low-calorie diet and regular exercise. However, lets look at a few more details; many successful NWCR participants exercise for a total of 60-90 minutes a day, regularly. Many break it up through the day, and almost all claim they hated it to begin with, but now its just a part of their lives. They made a choice to avoid regaining their weight and love their lean and active lifestyles. Another consistent aspect of participants is they all eat breakfast. This is another habit that many had to get used to, but realize how important it is to eat a good meal at the beginning of the day in order to avoid cravings and high calorie snack foods later in the day. Three-quarters of all participants weigh themselves on a weekly basis, just so they can catch any increases that may slowly be developing, and take corrective action before its out of hand. Support is critical to success. Many people who struggle with weight already know that they just cant do it, themselves. They have proven this. However, often they are unwilling to admit they need help, thus they struggle for their entire lives. First of all, when someone has emotional eating issues, its critical that they seek the help of a qualified therapist they can work well with. Someone they can share their feelings with, who they feel they can confide in and trust. Next, its important to also find a Registered Dietitian (RD) to help them learn how to apply the wealth of nutrition knowledge they already know to their own lives. There are many people who call themselves nutritionists and many food coaches, but these people are not educated in all aspects of nutrition the way an RD is. The third important piece of the support team is to find someone who can help them learn how to become more active. If a person is very overweight, its important to find someone experienced in this population, not a hunk who now likes to train others to look like hunks or competitive body builders. Most people are not interested in looking like they just won the Mr/Ms America pageant; they just want to lose weight, feel great and feel they can enjoy shopping for clothes again. The ultimate key is to eat fewer calories than the body needs. However, with exercise, the need for decreased calories will be less than if a person tried to lose weight by dieting alone. The topic of TOO few calories is beyond the scope of this article, but if a person ate too few calories, they then will burn their own body muscle tissue for the needed fuel, thus defeating the purpose of exercise, which is to increase lean body mass so the body will burn more calories at rest. However, once a person learns to listen to their own body cues, they can learn how to tell when they are eating too little, as well as too much. So, first they control their calorie intake. Then they do some type of physical activity. As we have seen above, this must be consistent. It could be as simple as taking a walk, but it should be every day, every month, for the rest of their life. Most of the participants in the NWCR site walking as their primary exercise. Not a day here and there, then skip a week; it has to be consistent. Once the walking gets easy, then there should be some type of activity that increases muscle endurance or strength. Weight training isnt the only activity that can do this, although its the most common. I challenge everyone who is reading this article to think of what activity you would like to do if your weight was not an issue; it may be wall climbing, it may be hiking a mountain, it may be snow skiing, maybe Pilates or Yoga. Its a hard road to travel when a person has a large amount of weight to lose. They feel like there is just no hope and its too hard to even attempt it. Most in this position have tried more times than theyd like to admit. Or, they have allowed life to get away from them, and they now look in the mirror with disgust, but just feel overwhelmed and dont understand how to get their old body back. They feel they have no control over their life. It is possible! Read through some of the success stories from participants in the NWCR, http://www.nwcr.ws/stories.htm. Just as with anything else in life, though, if you want to make it happen, you have to work through the struggles to achieve the rewards. The Telephone - A Brief History

Monday, August 20th, 2007

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Jason_Morris]Jason Morris During the 1870s, two well known inventors both independently designed devices that could transmit sound along electrical cables. Those inventors were Alexander Graham Bell and Elisha Gray. Both devices were registered at the patent office within hours of each other. There followed a bitter legal battle over the invention of the telephone, which Bell subsequently won. The telegraph and telephone are very similar in concept, and it was through Bells attempts to improve the telegraph that he found success with the telephone. The telegraph had been a highly successful communication system for about 30 years before Bell began experimenting. The main problem with the telegraph was that it used Morse code, and was limited to sending and receiving one message at a time. Bell had a good understanding about the nature of sound and music. This enabled him to perceive the possibility of transmitting more than one message along the same wire at one time. Bells idea was not new, others before him had envisaged a multiple telegraph. Bell offered his own solution, the Harmonic Telegraph. This was based on the principal that musical notes could be sent simultaneously down the same wire, if those notes differed in pitch. By the latter part of 1874 Bells experiment had progressed enough for him to inform close family members about the possibility of a multiple telegraph. Bells future father in law, attorney Gardiner Green Hubbard saw the opportunity to break the monopoly exerted by the Western Union Telegraph Company. He gave Bell the financial backing required for him to carry on his work developing the multiple telegraph. However Bell failed to mention that he and his accomplice, another brilliant young electrician Thomas Watson, were developing an idea which occurred to him during the summer. This idea was to create a device that could transmit the human voice electrically. Bell and Watson continued to work on the harmonic telegraph at the insistence of Hubbard and a few other financial backers. During March 1875 Bell met with a man called Joseph Henry without the knowledge of Hubbard. Joseph Henry was the respected director of the Smithsonian Institution. He listened closely to Bells ideas and offered words of encouragement. Both Bell and Watson were spurred on by Henrys opinions and continued their work with even greater enthusiasm and determination. By June 1875 they realised their goal of creating a device that could transmit speech electrically would soon be realised. Their experiments had proven different tones would vary the strength of an electric current in a wire. Now all they had to do was build a device with a suitable membrane capable of turning those tones into varying electronic currents and a receiver to reproduce the variations and turn them back into audible format at the other end. In early June, Bell discovered that while working on his harmonic telegraph, he could hear a sound over the wire. It was the sound of a twanging clock spring. It was on March 10th 1876 that Bell was to finally realise the success and communications potential of his new device. The possibilities of being able to talk down an electrical wire far outweighed those of a modified telegraph system, which was essentially based on just dots and dashes. According to Bells notebook entry for that date, he describes his most successful experiment using his new piece of equipment, the telephone. Bell spoke to his assistant Watson, who was in the next room, through the instrument and said Mr Watson, come here, I want to speak to you. Alexander Graham Bell was born on 3rd March 1847 in Edinburgh, Scotland. His family were leading authorities in elocution and speech correction. He was groomed and educated to follow a career in the same speciality. By the age of just 29 in 1876 he had invented and patented the telephone. His thorough knowledge of sound and acoustics helped immensely during the development of his telephone, and gave him the edge over others working on similar projects at that time. Bell was an intellectual of quality rarely found since his death. He was a man always striving for success and searching for new ideas to nurture and develop. The telephone important dates 1. 1874 Principal of the telephone was uncovered. 2. 1876 Alexander Graham Bell invents the telephone, beating Elisha Gray by a matter of hours. 3. 1877 The very first permanent outdoor telephone wire was completed. It stretched a distance of just three miles. This was closely followed in the U.S. by the worlds first commercial telephone service. 4. 1878 The workable exchange was developed, which enabled calls to be switched between subscribers rather than having direct lines. 5. 1879 Subscribers began to be designated by numbers and not their names. 6. 1880s Long distance service expanded throughout this period using metallic circuits. 7. 1888 Common battery system developed by Hammond V. Hayes, allows one central battery to power all telephones on an exchange, rather than relying on each units own battery. 8. 1891 First automatic dialling system invented by a Kansas City undertaker. He believed that crooked operators were sending his potential customers elsewhere. It was his aim to get rid of the operators altogether. 9. 1900 First coin operated telephone installed in Hartford, Connecticut. 10. 1904 French Phone developed by the Bell Company. This had the transmitter and receiver in a simple handset. 11. 1911 American Telephone and Telegraph (AT & T) acquire the Western Union Telegraph Company in a hostile takeover. They purchased stocks in the company covertly and the two eventually merged. 12. 1918 It was estimated that approximately ten million Bell system telephones were in service throughout the U.S. 13. 1921 The switching of large numbers of calls was made possible through the use of phantom circuits. This allowed three conversations to take place on two pairs of wires. 14. 1927 First transatlantic service from New York to London became operational. The signal was transmitted by radio waves. 15. 1936 Research into electronic telephone exchanges began and was eventually perfected in the 1960s with the electronic switching system (SES). 16. 1946 Worlds first commercial mobile phone service put into operation. It could link moving vehicles to a telephone network via radio waves. 17. 1947 Microwave radio technology used for the first time for long distance phone calls. 18. 1947 The transistor was invented at Bell laboratories. 19. 1955 Saw the beginning of the laying of transatlantic telephone cables. 20. 1962 The worlds first international communications satellite, Telstar was launched. 21. 1980s The development of fibre optic cables during this decade, offered the potential to carry much larger volumes of calls than satellite or microwaves. 22. 1980s, 1990s, to present Huge advances in micro electronic technology over the last two decades have enabled the development of cellular (mobile) phones to advance at a truly astonishing rate. A cellular (mobile) phone has its own central transmitter allowing it to receive seamless transmissions as it enters and exits a cell. Some people believe the impact of the telephone has had on our lives is negative. Target Market To Reduce Potential Customers And Increase Your Profits

Monday, August 20th, 2007

By Paul Knauss Did you know that by reducing your potential customers you could actually increase your profits? By knowing who your target market is you could reduce your potential customers and those that remain would be more easily sold to. Therefore your sales would go up, your promotional costs go down and hence your profits rise. Why Target Market ?Being able to serve just one group of people could easily put you in a superior position to your competitors. By finding and concentrating on just one group would keep your advertising costs to a minimum and your response rates much higher. Advertise in a general magazine, for instance, and your advert is being wasted on a majority of readers. Now run your advert in a specialist publication, that your target market may read, and your advert will be seen by far many more interested readers. So you see, there is a definite need for you to know your target market and not believe that everyone is your potential customer. Then, and only then, can you concentrate your promotional efforts on the right people. Once you know your market you will find that promoting to them is far easier. You will know which publications to advertise in and which events to visit and maybe promote at, even if it is just giving out your business cards. Gone will be the days of giving your business card to everyone, now you know exactly who to give them to. I am not suggesting you save money by reducing the number of cards you have printed. Still retain your repeat order with the printer but now your business cards are going to the people who are more likely to use your services. Cost of cards are the same but the potential business would increase. How to Find Your Target MarketThis is the scary bit for many people. If I mention market research many will stop reading and quickly find another ‘reader friendly’ article but don’t worry I have a better way of doing this. Before we look at that, though, let’s consider what is involved to find your present market. Your current customers are your first clue as to who your target market is. Conducting surveys with your existing customers will tell you more about the people who use your services. From these surveys you can build a picture of who your potential market is, where they come from (local, nationally, internationally for example), what they do and where you are most likely to be able to promote to them. Another method of discovering your target market is to study your competition. Where do they promote, who are their customers, where are their outlets. Look at their marketing materials, their advertisements and, if they have one, their web site. From this information you may get a better understanding of the group of people they are promoting to. As previously mentioned, all this requires market research and is time consuming. Now let’s look at an alternative. Create Your Own Target MarketThis is where you can reduce your potential customers yet still increase your profits. Become a specialist in one particular area of your business. A few examples may help. A clothes shop would be just another clothes shop in any town or mall but if it specialized in, for example, party clothes, people would come from other areas for that special dress or suit. If you own a book store then you are competing with similar stores with similar products in every town. Specialize in, for example, aviation books and you could get International recognition for the place to go for that particular subject. Well maybe not to ‘go’ but to order via mail order (could be an expensive book otherwise). Think about your business and how you may be able to create a specialist niche for yourself within your industry. Is there a particular profession you do a lot of business with, an area of your country that requires your services more than any other, a hobby whose participants use your products. Define a niche for yourself then promote your business to that niche. Maybe you could have more than one niche but keep them separate. If you have others working with you, a partner, spouse or trusted employee, then you could consider each having control of one particular niche. That person could then become the ‘expert’ in that area and give even more prestige and credibility to your business. ConclusionBy targeting your markets in this way you become the business to go to for the product or service type you supply. You become recognized as the expert in your industry and attract customers from further away. No longer will you waste time on people who may or may not be interested in what you have to offer. Your customers are now coming to you because they want to not because you are just another outlet, like so many others in your trade, that the customer checks out, browses and leaves. Your advertising and returns become far more effective and you could also consider finding other companies, to partner with, that don’t compete with you on product but have the same target market. Maybe joint advertisements or the occasional shared Trade Stand at exhibitions would be beneficial to both you and your new found promotional partner. If you do exhibit at exhibitions then these benefits are not just financial. First, the exhibitions you choose could be less generalized and far more highly targeted. Second, there are the obvious cost savings of shared amenities but also the advantage of providing a larger presence, creating more interest and having more staff to manage the shared stand. That last paragraph illustrates just one extra advantage of having a target market, there are plenty more, I am sure you could think of, for your own business. If you think deeply about your business, your products, your services and your customers you will be able to discover who your real target market is, or could be, and then re-position your business to take full advantage of target marketing. What The Heck Is Phentramin?

Saturday, August 18th, 2007

By Ian Mason And why should I care? Good questions. First, here’s why you should care. Unlike Phentermine and other controlled medications, Phentramin gives you prescription-strength appetite suppression without the annoying side effects. You don’t even need a doctor’s prescription to get it. If you want to order it online, you don’t have to worry about dealing with pharmacies. Whew - I don’t even want to get started on those pharmacies. Plus, since the manufacturer (Lazarus Labs) keeps strict control over pricing, you’ll never find different prices for the same order. That’s right… no more online pharmacies. No more reorder email spam, shipping delays, rude customer service reps, or medications shipped in baggies. And best of all, no more high prices. Pretty cool, huh? That is cool! Umm… What the heck is Phentramin? Alright! Now we’re ready for that part. Phentramin is simply a non-prescription diet pill. It was developed to produce the same strong appetite suppression as Phentermine. But it’s different because it helps you lose weight without the annoying side effects. Sounds good. But how does Phentramin work? Phentramin tricks your brain into thinking the stomach is full, even if you’re not. You just won’t want to eat. The active ingredients in Phentramin work to eliminate cravings and hunger for most of the day. The ingredients have also been proven in clinical studies to help you lose weight. You say Phentramin has fewer side effects - but what are they? When you take Phentramin, the main effects are energy boost and weight loss. But some people might notice slightly dry mouth, have difficulty sleeping, or feel irritable. This is caused by the caffeine, just as if you drank some sodas. Thankfully, these side effects are always short term. They’ll disappear within a week or so. Learn more about Phentramin at PhenForum.com, a community of people just like you. Turn Prospects Into Customers By Triggering The Core Buying Emotion

Thursday, August 16th, 2007

By Lisa Packer No matter what youre marketing, from goods to services to information, every sale you make is fueled by your prospects emotion. Every purchase, every day, everywhere is made based on emotions. Theyre at the heart of our psychological decision-making process. In fact, studies have shown that people with injuries to the area of the brain responsible for emotions suddenly find it very difficult to make even the most basic decisions. The key, then, to capturing that prospects attention and turning him into a loyal customer is to trigger the emotions that will make him decide he cant live without what youre offering. The Core Buying Emotion Its the fuel that powers every sale the Core Buying Emotion. The deep-seated feelings your prospect already has toward your product or service and the needs it will fulfill in his life. He already has these feelings. Your job is to discover them, and stimulate them in your marketing. But the CBE is complex, not just a single feeling. Just like gasoline is a complex mix of chemicals a mix that differs from state to state, sometimes even city to city the CBE is an intricate mix of feelings. And just like pure crude oil wont move your car, pure one-dimensional emotions wont move your products. People dont feel single, isolated emotions and they certainly dont buy on them. Know Thy Prospect To get to his core emotions, you have to know your prospect well. Intimately well. You have to know more than just demographics. What is he worried about? What frustrates him? What are his core beliefs? What are his dreams and aspirations? Once you begin to see your prospect as a living, breathing human being with beliefs, feelings and desires, you can begin to uncover his core emotions. Youll begin to see the individual chemicals that make up the complete mixture. And then you can decide how to ignite the fuel that powers the sale! Does your marketing forge an emotional connection with your prospects? It can. Lisa Packer, author of “The Power Of Emotion: 6 Triggers That Turn Prospects Into Customers,” specializes in copy that does just that.
